Vodka : politics and legal aspects
Vodka started as a traditional Eastern European drink and became an international staple. (Link to Origins and Manufacturing.) The drink has also become intimately linked with Russia to the point that boycotting a Stoli Vodka is synonymous with boycotting Russia. Alcohol is also tied to crime by it’s nature, making legal interactions with vodka frequent, in ways that range from illegal distillery and sale, to drunk driving. Vodka, and alcohol in general, is addictive enough that a large organization that is political by nature, Alcoholics Anonymous, has been formed to combat the issue. Vodka is popular because of how well it incorporates into mixed drinks, and because of how strong it can be. In this section of the site, the spread of vodka is used to analyze global and intercultural relationships, and the way that the world in general relates to Eastern Europe.
